Quick Mention: Bill Gates’ Dad Comes to Collect Back the FUD Budget
The world is still not “as stupid as Microsoft needs it to be”
In Groklaw, an interesting short report was published which shows that Microsoft wants its money back from SCO.
Now it’s getting interesting. Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates’ father’s law firm, known as the firm that represents Microsoft, has just filed a Notice of Entry of Appearance and Demand for Notices and Papers [PDF] in the SCO bankruptcy on behalf of MSLI.
[…]
I guess filing as MSLI instead of Microsoft Licensing is like putting on sunglasses, hoping no one will notice you.
We’ve mentioned in the past some of the rather obvious connections between Microsoft and SCO, including other by-proxy lawsuits against Linux. It is worth rereading in order for the context of this to be fully understood.

Highlight: Novell was the first to acknowledge that Microsoft FUD tactics had substance. Novell then used anti-Linux FUD to market itself.
Highlight: Xandros let Microsoft make patent claims and brag about (paid-for) OOXML support.
Highlight: Linspire's CEO not only fell into Microsoft arms, but he also assisted the company's attack on GNU/Linux.
Highlight: Microsoft craves pseudo (proprietary) standards and gets its way using proxies and influence which it buys.
Highlight: The invasion into the open source world is intended to leave Linux companies neglected, due to financial incentives from Microsoft.
Analysis: Xen, an open source hypervisor, possibly fell victim to Microsoft's aggressive (and stealthy) acquisition-by-proxy strategy.
