- Sun naming confusion: Is OpenSolaris an OS or a project?
Over three years, the OpenSolaris project has gathered some community under Sun Microsystems Inc. (SMI) guidance. The whole project resides at www.opensolaris.org and is focused on the open flavor of Solaris operating system, licensed under CDDL

- 10 Beautiful Themes for Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex
The upcoming release of Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) is highly anticipated not only for the system enhancements it will likely get, but also for its new default theme. The visual refresh is a long time coming, so I expect the Ubuntu artwork team is cooking something good for all of us.

- Why Linux…? You might be surprised
When you begin to add the monetary costs, the time spent in updating virus sofware and the frustration of a system that just doesn’t work right; Linux becomes the obvious choice. The people that volunteer to develop Linux have created an easy and secure system for you and I, and people are finally beginning to hear about it. Spend 2 weeks using it, and you will soon appreciate what “freedom” really is.

- Ubuntu Preinstalled in Poland
Today I saw this laptop in a computer store in Krakow Poland. Notice anything different about it? Yes, it’s got Ubuntu preinstalled on it. I’ve read about many companies doing this but it is the first time I’ve seen it in a shop here. I managed to snap this photo on my camera phone so sorry about the quality!

- Flexiscale Cloud recovers with zero data loss
In the early hours of this morning testing was completed on the system to restore all customer data and around 7am this morning the first customer data was restored and servers put online. It was observed at this time that although Linux servers were working correctly, Windows servers wouldn’t boot (even though all the data was intact). Unfortunately we had to slow down the restore of servers while we diagnosed these problems.
- It’s a joke: In a Linux world without walls who needs Windows?

Highlight: Novell was the first to acknowledge that Microsoft FUD tactics had substance. Novell then used anti-Linux FUD to market itself.
Highlight: Xandros let Microsoft make patent claims and brag about (paid-for) OOXML support.
Highlight: Linspire's CEO not only fell into Microsoft arms, but he also assisted the company's attack on GNU/Linux.
Highlight: Microsoft craves pseudo (proprietary) standards and gets its way using proxies and influence which it buys.
Highlight: The invasion into the open source world is intended to leave Linux companies neglected, due to financial incentives from Microsoft.
Analysis: Xen, an open source hypervisor, possibly fell victim to Microsoft's aggressive (and stealthy) acquisition-by-proxy strategy.
