Novell Pressures SCO for Money

HOW HAS this litigious farce dragged on for half a decade? Who funded this whole lost battle? And who fueled for action in the first place?
“Give us the money,” says Novell to SCO, whose role is funnily enough being inherited by Novell, which offers only its own customers "intellectual property peace of mind."
Groklaw was the only site that covered SCO matters. Here is the motion where Novell goes in for the money (i.e. for the kill):
Novell reminds the court, $625,486.90, “based on an uncontested reading of trust tracing law and SCO’s relevant daily balance information” regarding the Sun SVRX royalties that the court concluded were Novell’s from that deal, $2,547,817. What they don’t agree on is when SCO should pay it.
SCO is starting to play some more bizarre games with money. It merely continues this queer pattern.

Unless I am misreading this, SCO seems now to be sending more than that to SCO India alone. With SCO shrinking before our eyes, why are the subsidiaries needing more money now? I have no explanation.

SCO won’t be around for much longer (because "Microsoft needed a new shill" and it found Novell). But the cartoons will stay.

Hi,
I just heard that Novell is designing the OS for Windows 7. I live in Provo Utah and heard it from an insider that Novell is designing it w/ a flavor of Linux. I guess that M$ even admits that NT is loaded w/ security and stability issues.
I am not sure if this is true, but it would not surprise me.

They didn’t. SCO is facing a court battle against Novell. Here is the latest:

“Novell has filed its Response to SCO’s Notice of Voluntary Dismissal. It’s ascerbic and funny as can be. It shows the court each and every tricky bit it thinks SCO might just be angling for.
“I saw in the email exchange between the SCO and Novell attorneys that were attached to the David Melaugh Declaration that SCO has stepped on Novell’s last nerve with its trickiness. And here we see the result. Novell points out each and every conceivable thing SCO might be trying for, leaving nothing for SCO to try later.”

Um, it really makes no sense whatsoever for Microsoft to use Linux as a Unix under everything when *BSD is just as stable, almost as good for drivers and has a proprietisable licence. Just think what a version of Windows Microsoft could do starting from OpenBSD and Wine …
