    We have long had a similar result on our (industrial products, not consumer) website. Likewise we never saw more than a 57% share of Microsoft operating systems even during the peak of the dot-com boom.
    Seems to me the whole ‘monopoly’ thing was just a sales tactic.

    The share of Microsoft operating systems here is below 50% most of the time (46.9 % last month).

    We have a somewhat specific demographic – many GNU/Linux users/supporters/enthusiasts, and even the folks here on Windows are generally technically proficient – again a demo that is less likely to use IE than "Joe Six Pack".
