schestowitz Hey, what’s up? Mar 15 14:30
_Hicham_ I miss this channel ! Mar 15 14:31
_Hicham_ it is becoming more than a novell issue Mar 15 14:32
_Hicham_ far more bigger than that Mar 15 14:32
trmanco http://video.linuxfoundat… Mar 15 14:33
schestowitz _Hicham_: have you seen BN today? I made 3 posts Mar 15 14:34
schestowitz ACTA is an outrage Mar 15 14:34
schestowitz Novell is a sympton of a broken system, maybe the scapegoat that takes the toll because it harms Linux, which was intended to be more of a camp (GNU) that serves a grand purpose. Mar 15 14:35
schestowitz I sometimes wonder how much of a ‘GNU’ Linus is…. I mean, it’s not as though he can deny his dad was a communist. Maybe he’s just shy of certain things. Mar 15 14:35
trmanco haha, the ksplice slogam Mar 15 14:37
schestowitz trmanco: thanks, there should be about 30 Mar 15 14:37
schestowitz I’ll repost in BN Mar 15 14:37
trmanco Ksplice – Rebooting is obsolete Mar 15 14:37
schestowitz It’s raw marketing material for GNU/Linux Mar 15 14:37

schestowitz The Linux Foundation did a wonderful service here because it gives fuel for advocacy. Novell did the same with Compiz. Mar 15 14:58
_Hicham_ what did Novell with Compiz? Mar 15 15:00
schestowitz It was part of making it possible. Mar 15 15:00
schestowitz One of the good things they did. Mar 15 15:00

twitter good morning, comrades!  New trick:  shift+return = non disruptive way to review the day’s IRC. Mar 15 17:15
twitter In theory, you can write DVDs with a 286.   DVD 1x is 1.321 MB/s, 8MHz ISA gives 16MB/s.  Most SCSI cards give 5 MB/s, so you can do it through that interface. Mar 15 17:15
twitter You would have to write the image first, then do a a straight burn from disk.  FreeDOS should be able to do that kind of thing.  Yes, it would be very slow. Mar 15 17:15
twitter Must resist urge to set up old 286 with freeDOS.  Have much more important and productive things to do. Mar 15 17:15
twitter I imagine k3b can get the job done with USB 1 on my 233MHz PII laptop but don’t see the need to try.  I’ve got better equipment. Mar 15 17:15
zer0c00l schestowitz:http://magesh.geexhq.com/?p=24 read the seventh line from the bottom…Microsoft always finds its way into opensource conferences Mar 15 17:15
twitter Dreamweaver dying?  Sad for their users, good for network and software freedom. Mar 15 17:15
twitter The smears are all M$ has had for a long time.  They can’t argue technicalities anymore.  They are left with, “use our inferior software at all costs or you are a Zealot.” Mar 15 17:15
twitter the “Extreme Biases” page feeds these smears, please don’t link to trash like that. Mar 15 17:15
twitter There is nothing natural about the Chicago River.  Even if it’s algae bloom, that comes from fertilizers and creates dead zones. Mar 15 17:15
twitter BN had a nice write up about M$ stinking up competitor’s conferences and the underhanded tricks it takes to get there. Mar 15 17:15
twitter the bottom line is that you can’t trust anyone from M$, no matter how friendly they are personally, their goal is your destruction. Mar 15 17:16
zer0c00l twitter: can i get that link? Mar 15 17:18

zer0c00l yeah Mar 15 17:54
zer0c00l i bookmarked it :) Mar 15 17:55
twitter that’s a good idea. Mar 15 17:55

twitter I think it’s time to reclaim the spectrum to avoid this kind of attack.  Think civil disobedience with Open Spectrum on empty TV broadcast spectrum. Mar 15 18:04
twitter The Prometheus Project has done some work like this with community FM and they talk about Open Spectrum, but I don’t think they have gone the distance and published plans for free internet routers and mesh networking. Mar 15 18:06
twitter centralized telco must die if free press is to survive. Mar 15 18:07
_Hicham_ what about canonical developing closed source products? Mar 15 18:07

jose amarsh04__, i don’t know about dvd burners but perhaps at least the one you used aggregates data for a while and then when the spinning reaches the right spot again it dumps it out at the necessary speed. if so, such a burner should never result in bad burns because of low data rate. wonder how many burners work this way. Mar 15 18:18

jose schestowitz and anyone else, has this link come out on bn (from 4 days ago) http://blog.wired.com/27bstr… Mar 15 18:22
jose i get the feeling, the prior person in that post wanted to rock the boat, while maybe the person who worked (works?) at ms for a while played the laid back approach.. and maybe is mostly interested in pushing ms lockin. .. hopefully not Mar 15 18:24
twitter he he, I think this just got front paged.  http://slashdot.org/fireho… Mar 15 18:24
twitter the bridge to microsoft as an the new pork barrel Mar 15 18:25
amarsh04_ jose, I think that it was only burning from its buffer… the disk stayed spinning continuously though Mar 15 18:25
jose not sure how to read those numbers about buffer full/etc. Mar 15 18:27
jose to be clear, what i was saying would be that the drive would keep it’s buffer is accumulation mode for a while, the disk would spin, no burning would take place, the buffer would slowly fill up… Mar 15 18:28
jose then in one shot, the buffer would empty down (or part way down) once the right location on the disk came around again.. and the process would repeat. Mar 15 18:28
jose it would be interesting to test this perhaps by doing something like a cat > drive Mar 15 18:29
jose if you have a drive that works this way (assuming these exist) then you might have to modify the source to the burner software Mar 15 18:30
jose ? Mar 15 18:30
twitter bbl Mar 15 18:30
jose maybe no need to modify. can’t remember if these accept input from stdin Mar 15 18:31

jose lots of groups try to be good to tomorrow’s leaders Mar 15 18:41
jose but the ms case doesn’t inspire confidence in me Mar 15 18:41
jose someone might try this test for recording from something slow: Mar 15 18:43
jose get an iso file, break it up into pieces, then run a (shell) script that sends each piece in a loop… Mar 15 18:44
jose have a sleep in each loop to slow down the process Mar 15 18:44
jose and send all the pieces one after the other to the stdin of say cdrecord Mar 15 18:44
jose ie, write a bash loop where on each cycle you sleep for a second and then ship off to stdin of cdrecord the next chunk of the iso Mar 15 18:45
jose this won’t work if you startup a new cdrecord process in each cycle so you have to shove the stuff into a fifo or whatever but make sure you shove it into the same running cdrecord process Mar 15 18:47

twitter schestowitz, this story is very interesting.  http://boycottnovell.com/2009/03/… Mar 15 19:14
twitter I’m not sure I understand the interference though.  Do you have links to stories or did you get the information from email? Mar 15 19:14
Balrog_ someone sent me a pagemaker file created in windows using a proprietary font and keyboard layout Mar 15 19:14
Balrog_ the correct chars are cyrillic, but I get this: Mar 15 19:15
Balrog_ ïàðàô³ÿíàì Mar 15 19:15
twitter ick Mar 15 19:15
Balrog_ so the font is mapping cyrillic chars to those codes Mar 15 19:15

Balrog_ Pagemaker files aren’t the problem here Mar 15 19:15

balzac I’ve been to high-end clubs in manhattan, but this was the best lap-dance i’ve ever had. Mar 15 19:37
balzac The only thing better would be the champagne room service in a high-end club in manhattan. I can’t afford that yet. Mar 15 19:38

balzac well, then some dude came up and farted, like a terrorist, trying to ruin my moment Mar 15 19:40

amarsh04_ weird, k3b verify worked for dvd, but not for cd, both burned from iso, yet a manual verify of the burned cd’s show them to be good also Mar 15 19:42

schestowitz Since the business press is funded by the business they refrain from challenging the PR Mar 15 22:20
schestowitz Balrog: google has investors Mar 15 22:20
balzac s/rog/zac Mar 15 22:20
schestowitz PR is just some excuse to get people off your back to them Mar 15 22:20
schestowitz They are obliged to make tghe Chinese government happy Mar 15 22:21
schestowitz The investors decide Mar 15 22:21
balzac not sure if that’s the right syntax because I actually don’t use awk and sed yet Mar 15 22:21
schestowitz Shareholder vote with wallet Mar 15 22:21
balzac damned share-holders Mar 15 22:21
schestowitz There is no account for ethics in this framework of busienss. Mar 15 22:21
balzac I wish Bernie Madoff had lost their money Mar 15 22:21
schestowitz :-) Mar 15 22:21
schestowitz Would be better had he not been born Mar 15 22:21
balzac come on now. don’t you think that’s a bit harsh? Mar 15 22:22
schestowitz Reports: Microsoft Cripples Windows 7 Starter Edition in Hopes of Netbook Upgrades < http://www.dailytech.com/Reports+Micros… >. I think I covered this Mar 15 22:22
balzac Bernie was generous with everyone else’s money Mar 15 22:22
schestowitz balzac: no, ot harsh at all Mar 15 22:22
balzac he was like Santa Claus, but then he made a miscalculation and now he’s treated like the devil. Mar 15 22:22
schestowitz Vista news: 4 Mar 15 22:23
schestowitz So here is how it goes Mar 15 22:23
schestowitz In one week, the non-existent product got 4 times more publicity than the flagship product Mar 15 22:23
schestowitz That’s vapourware tactics. Model example. Mar 15 22:23
schestowitz Think 7 Mar 15 22:24
schestowitz Think promises Mar 15 22:24
schestowitz It WILL be great Mar 15 22:24
schestowitz WILL=MIGHT Mar 15 22:24
schestowitz Forget Vista Mar 15 22:24
Balrog_ “iPhone 3.0 Copy and Paste Described” Mar 15 22:24
schestowitz I.e. forget about what we offer Mar 15 22:24
Balrog_ http://www.macrumors.com/2009/03/1… Mar 15 22:24
Balrog_ still a rumor Mar 15 22:24
MinceR wow, maybe the jesusPhone 4.0 in 2012 will have the functionality a real smartphone had years ago! Mar 15 22:26
MinceR crApple — yesterday’s technology at tomorrow’s price. Mar 15 22:26
Balrog_ a real smartphone <<< stable? Mar 15 22:26
Balrog_ capacitive touchscreen or crappy resistive? Mar 15 22:26
schestowitz MinceR: did we tell you it shiiiiiny? Mar 15 22:27
MinceR oh, i know Mar 15 22:27
MinceR so many sprinkles on a piece of turd. Mar 15 22:27
schestowitz But it hard a sharp issue Mar 15 22:27
schestowitz The first iteration.. Mar 15 22:28
balzac bbiab Mar 15 22:28
schestowitz People’s iPhone got worn off and broken apart even in gym bags Mar 15 22:28
schestowitz It just broke to small pieces over time Mar 15 22:28
schestowitz Maybe they changed manufacturers in G3 Mar 15 22:28
schestowitz But anyway, when you buy it, it’s shiny Mar 15 22:28
Balrog_ you mean the apple logo? Mar 15 22:28
schestowitz Balrog: I think the screen Mar 15 22:29
schestowitz It was published in some places at the time Mar 15 22:29
schestowitz I’m quite indifferent when it comes to phones Mar 15 22:29
Balrog_ hm. I didn’t hear too much about it, but it *is* glass :) Mar 15 22:29
Balrog_ and yes, I do see broken ones on occasion Mar 15 22:29
Balrog_ one nasty thing about the first-gen iphone is that to fix broken glass, you need a whole new new screen assembly (including LCD panel) Mar 15 22:30
Balrog_ expensive :( Mar 15 22:30
Balrog_ the never ones have a two-part touchscreen and LCD Mar 15 22:30
Balrog_ I wonder how the android is…? Mar 15 22:30
Balrog_ (I’ve disassembled the 1st-gen iphone) Mar 15 22:32
MinceR “the android” is an OS, not a device Mar 15 22:33
Balrog_ err, T-Mobile G1 Mar 15 22:33
Balrog_ sorry :( Mar 15 22:33
schestowitz G1 is fugly, IMHO Mar 15 22:35
schestowitz But it’s useful for the user… kb and all Mar 15 22:35
Balrog_ yeah, if you like keyboards :P Mar 15 22:36
Balrog_ I don’t think keyboards are always a good idea: many moving parts, high relative chance of failure Mar 15 22:36
schestowitz Yo MinceR, check out what your buddy sez: http://blogs.zdnet.com/open-so… Mar 15 22:37
schestowitz And he’s poisoning others (Asay) Mar 15 22:37
schestowitz Balrog: let’s use a notepad instead. Fire is the worst enemy :-) Mar 15 22:38
MinceR he’s not my buddy Mar 15 22:38
Balrog_ heh, a notepad :) Mar 15 22:38
schestowitz Balrog: a bit sour grapey, no? Mar 15 22:38
Balrog_ schestowitz: about? Mar 15 22:38
schestowitz Why have a kb on my PC? Mar 15 22:38
schestowitz I can have on-screen keyboard to mouse over Mar 15 22:38
schestowitz Fewer moving parts Mar 15 22:38
Balrog_ because I have five fingers, and the size is right Mar 15 22:38
schestowitz Less risk spilling tea on it ;-) Mar 15 22:38
Balrog_ with portable devices, you lose a lot of the benefit of a full-size keyboard Mar 15 22:39
Balrog_ (no touch typing possible) Mar 15 22:39
schestowitz You can still connect them Mar 15 22:39
MinceR Balrog_: and i still keep a lot of them Mar 15 22:39
schestowitz Does iphone have peripherals like kb? Mar 15 22:39
Balrog_ yes, that should be possible, definitely Mar 15 22:39
schestowitz But is there? Mar 15 22:39
MinceR a peripheral is a lot less handy there Mar 15 22:39
Balrog_ the only peripherals I know of is a TTY device for blind people Mar 15 22:40
schestowitz My 8 yo palm had it Mar 15 22:40
MinceR a clip-on thumbboard might work but i doubt they make those for the jesusPhone Mar 15 22:40
schestowitz Balrog: what would be the point? Mar 15 22:40
Balrog_ well, the iphone doesn’t have a ‘word processor’ app Mar 15 22:40
schestowitz They can’t see if it’s shiny Mar 15 22:40
schestowitz They might as well get a cheaper phone Mar 15 22:40
Balrog_ err not blink Mar 15 22:40
Balrog_ blind * Mar 15 22:40
Balrog_ deaf Mar 15 22:40
schestowitz Ah Mar 15 22:40
Balrog_ typing without thinking :P Mar 15 22:40
schestowitz Why was opy and paste removed? Mar 15 22:41
schestowitz OpenClip? Mar 15 22:41
schestowitz Security reasons? Mar 15 22:41
schestowitz ‘Security’ Mar 15 22:41
Balrog_ yes. to implement it, it was writing in a different app’s sandbox. Mar 15 22:41
Balrog_ you can’t do that on any platform with sandboxes Mar 15 22:41
schestowitz With iPhone, ‘Security’ Is Code for ‘Control’ < http://www.schneier.com/essay-204.html > Mar 15 22:42
Balrog_ (sandbox is supposed to be restricted to one app) Mar 15 22:42
schestowitz :-) Mar 15 22:42
schestowitz Welcome back single-tasking :-) Mar 15 22:42
Balrog_ on ANY platform :O Mar 15 22:42
MinceR i hated palmos 5 precisely because it had no multitasking Mar 15 22:42
Balrog_ there *should* be global storage though Mar 15 22:42
MinceR (except for really ugly interrupt-driven hacks not many apps did) Mar 15 22:43
Balrog_ oh, the iphone is perfectly capable of multitasking Mar 15 22:43
Balrog_ Apple’s own software does it Mar 15 22:43
MinceR it just won’t do it for you Mar 15 22:43
MinceR because you’re not cool enough to be worthy Mar 15 22:43
Balrog_ but multitasking can be terrible for battery life Mar 15 22:43
MinceR and not being able to multitask can be terrible for achieving what i need to do Mar 15 22:43
Balrog_ if I have terminal (with four shell sessions) open in the background, the battery drains at an increased rate Mar 15 22:44
schestowitz The Dennis Byron troll is at it again, peddling the Vole… “On February 26, some organization called Wikileaks (just what you think it means)..” Mar 15 22:44
MinceR i wonder whether functionality or battery life is more important Mar 15 22:44
MinceR decisions, decisions Mar 15 22:44
Balrog_ well, users don’t like phantom apps that reduce battery life without telling them Mar 15 22:44
MinceR hm, when did those “phantom apps” appear? Mar 15 22:44
Balrog_ something need to be done to show users how much battery life will they use Mar 15 22:44
schestowitz Balrog: I doubt it affects battery Mar 15 22:44
schestowitz It just used more RAM Mar 15 22:44
Balrog_ phantom apps are those that run in the background that shouldn’t Mar 15 22:44
schestowitz If you run multiple apps Mar 15 22:44
schestowitz You do a normal round-robin Mar 15 22:45
Balrog_ schestowitz: It depends. If an app uses a daemon, it may reduce battery Mar 15 22:45
schestowitz If implemented properly it should be cheap Mar 15 22:45
Balrog_ or if it fetches data from network Mar 15 22:45
Balrog_ yes, but how will the end-user know if it’s implemented properly? Mar 15 22:45
schestowitz Balrog: let it Mar 15 22:45
schestowitz It needs it Mar 15 22:45
schestowitz If it probes network, it has reason to Mar 15 22:46
schestowitz Else, reprogram app Mar 15 22:46
MinceR or perhaps the user should care about what he’s running Mar 15 22:46
Balrog_ it has reason to. But the user needs to know that it’s probing network and that it will reduce battery life. Mar 15 22:46
Balrog_ also, apps shouldn’t ‘waste’ CPU in the background. Mar 15 22:47
Balrog_ a badly programmed one will Mar 15 22:47
Balrog_ install two or three or more apps, and how do you know which is the culprit without complicated (for typical users) tracking? Mar 15 22:48
MinceR the device should do what i want it to do, not what some marketers in Cupertino decided what a complete idiot could cope with. Mar 15 22:49
MinceR if i wanted a device idiots can handle, i’d have bought the cheapest, dumbest phone i could get a hold of. Mar 15 22:49
Balrog_ yes, it should. But they don’t want idiots calling and saying “Why doesn’t this work?” Mar 15 22:49
Balrog_ what about non-technical users who aren’t idiots? Not everyone is a geek like us :P Mar 15 22:50
MinceR i’m tired of having apple fanboys tell me how great that crap they’ve paid through the nose is, when in fact it isn’t. Mar 15 22:50
Balrog_ answer that last question. what about non-technical users? Mar 15 22:50
MinceR they should aim for a device that does what they want and what they can handle Mar 15 22:53
MinceR there’s probably a wide spectrum of devices that can potentially be useful Mar 15 22:53

Balrog_ well the Mac is very much like that …. software wise … at least in my experiences Mar 15 22:55
schestowitz Is that a good measure of much? It’s not as though people use many apps? Mar 15 22:55
Balrog_ that shows that the app store gives the opportunity to independent developers Mar 15 22:56
schestowitz Mark “Harvey Mudd College” as polluted by Microsoft interests: http://www.xconomy.com/seattle/2009/03… Mar 15 22:57
Balrog_ schestowitz: I believe the community figured out how to unbrick those phones that got bricked. Mar 15 22:58
Balrog_ and all updates will erase unauthorized software, because they just overwrite the system partition Mar 15 22:58
Balrog_ (on the iphone) Mar 15 22:59
schestowitz This is dumb: hey, Microsoft’s stock in in the toilet, but “it makes me feel younger” :: Microsoft stock brings back that old feeling < http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/ht… > Mar 15 23:00
schestowitz Balrog: :-)) Don’t get me started in bricking Mar 15 23:00
schestowitz Those phones are merely rented, let’s face it Mar 15 23:00
schestowitz The illusion of ownership, just like win32 Mar 15 23:00
balzac Roy, do you think you might have a word with Mark Shuttleworth and ask him to have his ops let me back into #ubuntu? Mar 15 23:00
balzac I know he has commented on your blog before. Mar 15 23:00
schestowitz Holy batman! Watch this spin: http://www.mxlogic.com/security… http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/249156/con… Mar 15 23:01
schestowitz Microsoft sloppiness attacks Windows Mar 15 23:01
schestowitz And the press portrays Microsoft as the white knight, a hero Mar 15 23:02
schestowitz Go, go Microsoft! Beat those people who exploit your bad engineering. Mar 15 23:02
MinceR yes, the mac is aimed at the lowest level of intellect that’s humanly possible Mar 15 23:02
schestowitz balzac: I won’t bother him with that Mar 15 23:02
schestowitz It’s redundant Mar 15 23:02
MinceR and i’m offended when the apple fanboys are pushing it. Mar 15 23:02
balzac Ok, I just thought I’d ask. Mar 15 23:03

Balrog_ heh … then I wonder why it’s widely used in scientific computing. Mar 15 23:03
Balrog_ balzac: why did you get blocked? Mar 15 23:03
balzac I complained a bit. Mar 15 23:03
balzac First it was about audio problems: ALSA restarting not re-initializing my audio. Mar 15 23:04
balzac I said “I shouldn’t have to reboot to get my audio back. That’s for windows” Mar 15 23:04
balzac Then I made the implication that people struggle for position in the repositories Mar 15 23:04
balzac I wondered aloud why certain packages were broken in the repos Mar 15 23:05
schestowitz claire.newman at canonical.com Mar 15 23:05
balzac This was in #ubuntu, and I was off-topic Mar 15 23:05
balzac so they suggested #ubuntu-offtopic Mar 15 23:05
balzac I complained about the name Mar 15 23:05
schestowitz Balrog: I think he asked about offtopic Mar 15 23:05
schestowitz beat me to it! Mar 15 23:05
schestowitz Balrog: we need bn-offtopic too Mar 15 23:06
balzac Fedora has a channel for open conversation and it’s called #fedora-social. I find “social” more inviting than “offtopic”. Mar 15 23:06
schestowitz For your stories about lap dances and such. Mar 15 23:06
balzac so then they were like, “do you have a problem”? Mar 15 23:06
balzac and said “yeah, I don’t like the name #ubuntu-offtopic. It sounds too utilitarian, and it’s named in such a way as to de-value the conversation which happens there” Mar 15 23:06
balzac anyway, they got the idea that I’m a whiner Mar 15 23:07
*jose has quit (“Leaving”) Mar 15 23:07
balzac we hashed it out in #ubuntu-ops for a little while. I ended up banned from those three #ubuntu channels Mar 15 23:07
balzac I found myself discussing things with one of the ops in #defocus Mar 15 23:07
balzac Anyway, I didn’t take anything personally, nor did I make it personal Mar 15 23:07

balzac I said, hey this is nice, it feels as if I’ve been invited Mar 15 23:08
balzac they brought me there from #ubuntu Mar 15 23:08
schestowitz So they tased u? Mar 15 23:08
balzac but then they banned me again Mar 15 23:08
balzac essentially Mar 15 23:09
schestowitz Maybe you teased them Mar 15 23:09
balzac I think they could use a little decaf. Mar 15 23:09
Balrog_ how did they know it was you? IP? Mar 15 23:09
schestowitz Depends how you phrased your suggestion Mar 15 23:09
balzac I teased them, they tased me. Mar 15 23:09

balzac Roy, so I was asking about freenode policies in #defocus Mar 15 23:12
balzac I think freenode is pretty free, all things considered. But certain channels are suffering a bit too much from corporate influence. Mar 15 23:12
balzac Your channel here is on the opposite end of the spectrum, where corporate criticism is free and un-restrained. Mar 15 23:13
balzac I still want to start a free software project for camgirl websites Mar 15 23:13
balzac I think it will be allowed if the freenode admins understand that I’m serious about it Mar 15 23:14
schestowitz Dont_Tase_Me_Bro is a trollish nickname Mar 15 23:14

balzac what good is freedom if it isn’t excercised Mar 15 23:19
balzac anyway, it’s not a serious problem, only a bit of amusement Mar 15 23:20
balzac I think they’ll get over it and I’ll socialize my way back in Mar 15 23:20

balzac sure I can Mar 15 23:25
balzac but I don’t think I should have to Mar 15 23:25
balzac I think they should drink more decaf Mar 15 23:25
balzac and change the name of #ubuntu-offtopic to #ubuntu-social Mar 15 23:25
balzac if the channel had a decent name, i never would have complained enough to get banned Mar 15 23:26
schestowitz the chgannel name had recognition Mar 15 23:28
schestowitz Quite trying to change it Mar 15 23:28
schestowitz It would rightly upset them Mar 15 23:28
schestowitz You can’t just magically change names Mar 15 23:28
balzac well, they can always point the old name to the new name Mar 15 23:28
balzac I’m not trying magic, I’m making a rational argument Mar 15 23:28
schestowitz I would change from boycottnovell to something else if Shane hadn’t started with this domain and site title Mar 15 23:29
balzac first you get scolded for chatting on the wrong subject in the support channel Mar 15 23:29
schestowitz Oftopic is fine Mar 15 23:29
balzac and lets face it, irc ops can be quite impatient with people Mar 15 23:29
schestowitz Many forums and chats in site have “off topic” areas Mar 15 23:29
schestowitz Social can be all sorts of things Mar 15 23:30
balzac so then you get sent to a channel which has a name sounding like your conversation is considered unworthy Mar 15 23:30
schestowitz Including main topic Mar 15 23:30
balzac At the very least, people who don’t immediately respond to the robo-cop demand for immediate compliance need not be swept unceremoniously away like a bit of trash on the sidewalk. Mar 15 23:32
balzac It’s the “open source” mentality of efficiency being the highest goal. It’s not social. Mar 15 23:32
balzac anyway, the problem is endemic on IRC, not a particular channel or network. Mar 15 23:34
balzac it won’t change any time soon, but count me among those who aren’t attached to keeping the status quo Mar 15 23:34
schestowitz hehe. Microsoft’s Kumo Will Only Come with Minor Tweaks < http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2… > I.e. new name, no change Mar 15 23:34

balzac you’ve got a strong brand and a good readership Mar 15 23:38
balzac maybe it’s time for some co-branding to slip-stream a new brand alongside BN in order to transfer some of the brand recognition Mar 15 23:39
balzac Perhaps a brand which can exist in a commercial context some day Mar 15 23:40
balzac excuse the over-chatting. I’m using adderall today. Mar 15 23:42

MinceR “windows mobile communities”? what are those? Mar 15 23:46
schestowitz In Google search they put in boycottnovell ot boycott novell like 1000 times/month Mar 15 23:46

schestowitz Change=confusion and for technical reasons changing domain is parctically impossible Mar 15 23:47
schestowitz MinceR: yes, I thought that too Mar 15 23:47
