Will_Tried out Win7 RC in a VM a few minutes ago.  Can't understand what all the fuss is about.  It was just kinda.... bland.  And seemed a little bloated.  I know I was using a VM, but Kubuntu Karmic beta in a VM with less resources, running in liveCD mode, was a good bit snappier than the Win7 VM.Oct 05 02:03
oiaohmWill_: and KDE is not light.Oct 05 02:18
oiaohmThere are thousands of bugs in optimisation of Linux that still exist as well.Oct 05 02:19
oiaohmWill_: the fuss is MS has released something that at least kinda works.Oct 05 02:29
Will_I mean, I'd whole heartedly agree that Vista users should upgrade if they want to continue with WIndows.  But for anyone else... I think either XP, OSX, or Linux is the better bet for now.Oct 05 02:30
Will_I'm not even saying that 7 was bad, though I only spend a few minutes toying around with it.  But what does it have that XP doesn't?Oct 05 02:31
oiaohmHigher level direct xOct 05 02:33

oiaohmSo that leaves one thing performance that Windows 7 fails to give up perfectly.Oct 05 02:34
Will_That's the problem.  Back in the day, there was real sizzle even in Microsoft's announcements.  Each OS release had something that made the upgrade a worthwhile investment.Oct 05 02:35
oiaohmThat is like Ubuntu now.Oct 05 02:35
oiaohmI still like in 6 months time Ubuntu target is a 10 second boot.Oct 05 02:35
Will_Now "It's not as bad as Vista" just doesn't have quite the same ring to it.Oct 05 02:35

Will_Win7 not a big jump from Vista.  Snow Leopard not a big jump from Leopard.  Gnome always takes a gradual, steady approach instead of sudden big surprises, and KDE might still be preoccupied with polishing after starting over from scratch.Oct 05 02:39

ThistleWebwith thunderbird you can do imap google quite easy, but it does require an addonOct 05 18:22
trmancowhat addon?Oct 05 18:22
ThistleWebafter the imap google addon is installed, it'll be listed as an option when setting up accountsOct 05 18:22

ThistleWebwith the addon, you have that, as well as a "imap googlemail"Oct 05 18:23
trmancoit had a gmail entryOct 05 18:23
ThistleWebyeah thats popOct 05 18:23
trmancoI can't really remember nowOct 05 18:23
ThistleWebit isOct 05 18:23
ThistleWebimap is disabled by defaultOct 05 18:23
trmancobut I do recall not using any specific plugin for imapOct 05 18:23
ThistleWebit's also not a default option on thunderbird for googlemailOct 05 18:23
ThistleWebI believe imap is more intensive on the server, which is why they prefer peeps use pop, psecially the free accountsOct 05 18:24
ThistleWebit's why it's sometimes a paid extra on stuff like yahoo and hotmailOct 05 18:24
*sdfg has quit ("Page closed")Oct 05 18:25
ThistleWebif you use different clients or different pcs to access your gmail during the day, imap is greatOct 05 18:26
ThistleWebthat way it's always there, emails you recieve and answer at work, are there when you get it from home and vice versaOct 05 18:27
ThistleWebthis'd be a good time to give a shout out for portableapps / thunderbirdOct 05 18:27
