(We reported on the previous year's charitable donations a couple of weeks ago, as you may recall.) According to the filing (which "is as thick as a phone book"), the firm has set aside another $200 million to give away to charity and the foundation now has a total of $404 million in assets. "Nov 13 09:41

In the first nine months of this year, the firm set aside about $17 billion for bonuses and other compensation.""Nov 13 09:41

_Hicham_oiaohm : no, I hope that pulseaudio will be the final oneNov 13 15:20

oiaohmalsamixer is not a patch table.Nov 13 15:25
oiaohmThat advanced audio work needs.Nov 13 15:25
oiaohmBasically you should start at the most advanced interface and simplerfy it to user.Nov 13 15:26
oiaohmNot what pulseaudio is trying to do.  Expand a interface to cope with the advanced users.Nov 13 15:26
oiaohmFor this reason pulseaudio will have to be replaced at some point.  Its structs are just not right.Nov 13 15:27
oiaohmIf /when pulseaudio and jackaudio merge then we can start talking about final audio server _Hicham_Nov 13 15:29
_Hicham_hopefullyNov 13 15:29
oiaohmKernel is killing off OSSNov 13 15:30
_Hicham_why ?Nov 13 15:30

oiaohmOpen Source Sound system has a lot of issues.Nov 13 15:30

oiaohmNot always.Nov 13 15:34
oiaohmRemember context switching from userspace to kernel space is expesnive.  _Hicham_Nov 13 15:35
oiaohmSome system calls in Linux kernel can redirect back to Like glibc for userspace to to avoid context switching.Nov 13 15:36

oiaohmClassic case is GPU prep work.  Its faster in userspace than kernel space _Hicham_Nov 13 15:38
_Hicham_i didn't know thatNov 13 15:39
oiaohmIts a simple case of numbers of context switchs.Nov 13 15:39
oiaohmIf the prep work can make one datablock to send to gpu all the mult calls can be reduced into 1 context switch.Nov 13 15:39
oiaohmNow a context switch per call is going to hurt.Nov 13 15:40
_Hicham_yes, evidentlyNov 13 15:40
oiaohmSame applies to audio effects processing.Nov 13 15:40
oiaohmBasically if the hardware cannot do it you are better of in most cases doing it in userspace to produce less number of switches.Nov 13 15:41
