- Bring Back the Excitement to Linux Desktop Effects
There's no doubt that some people have become a Linux user after seeing a video of Compiz Fusion in action on YouTube or wherever. During the first few days or weeks, sure they will enjoy the experience of having an extraordinary desktop that they can show off to their Vista-using friends. However, like some of us, there will come a time that these new-to-Linux users will get bored with those extra eye-candies and will realize that they don't really need them. Now, if more and more people will lose interest in those stunning desktop effects, then the future of Compiz-Fusion and other compositing window managers for Linux will surely be bleak.

- Dolphin screencast.
So this first screencast walks us through a part of Dolphin's feature set. The different view modes, zooming functionality, tooltips, the cool selection mechanism (no ctrl-key!), shows how Dolphin integrates my USB stick and how you safely remove it, the Capacity indicator, the places, information, folders and terminal panels and how you can use them to make Dolphin fit your working habits. It concludes with a run through the configuration dialog. Enjoy!

- MEPIS 8: An Early Look At Beta 5
I recently stumbled upon MEPIS Linux (pronounced ‘meh-pis’ — similar to “memphis”), and was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to pick up and use. I’ve decided to share my experiences with the latest beta of the upcoming MEPIS 8.
[...]
With MEPIS Linux, there seems to be an expectation of quality. Because of its unique relationship with Debian and Ubuntu, it has a rich library of packages, which see pretty regular updates. I am impressed with how readily-available the software is, and how easy it is to download and configure.
- Vector Linux 6 Beta And The Sticky Gui
I AM on record as being a big fan of Vector Linux, the Slackware derivative distribution with a worthy reputation for speed on older systems and great multimedia performance.
