The USPTO, currently headed by nobody following the resignation of Director Andrei Iancu, grants monopolies on ideas, including algorithms (since Martin Goetz started it). Under the leadership of David Kappos it has done nothing substantial to appease critics and limit patent scope. We also wrote on the subject in the following writings.
